Mel Verez & Gordopac (Nu Soul)

A whole lotta funk: the duo Mel Verez and Alex Borek

Full of energy, spontaneous, absolutely packed with groove, emotional, authentic and intensely danceable, this is how the music by singer songwriter Mel Verez and saxophone player and graphic designer Alex Borek could be described.

The two musicians got to know each other when they both played in the band „Vienna Funkattack“. In 2009 they finally decided to start their own project.
The funk and soul sessions around New York bassplayer Kris Jefferson and soul singer  Big John Whitfield from Oklahoma in venues such as the “Luftbad” and “Ost Klub” were an important factor in the career of the duo, because this is where they met their future band members and performed regularly as session openers always presenting their newest songs.

In 2010 their debut album “The Way I do It” came out and after a number of gigs an EP “Stronger than Before” was released, with its title spelling out the program for stronger, more driving disco beats and more catchy hook lines. In late 2012 singer songwriter Mel took a short trip down mainstream with her participation in the German music show “The Voice of Germany” before she released “Head under Water” in May 2013, a straightforward pop single.

The new sound of Gordopac convinces listeners with its excellent quality, with forceful and danceable beats but above all with maturity, coolness and just the right amount of grit. With Mel’s many-facetted voice, the authentic lyrics, the many different moods and a new influence from HipHop and RnB, Gordopac’s music comes straight from the heart and is incredibly versatile.
